SLO 6

SLO 6: Understand the dynamics of individual and group behavior and apply classroom management and motivational strategies to create meaningful learning environments.

My understanding of SLO 6:
SLO 6 is about the atmosphere of the classroom, and how it is affected by behaviors and disruptions. It includes working with individual students, as well whole class. Classroom management also includes using motivating strategies as a way to encourage positive behaviors.

Artifacts:

Rationale:
It is essential for students to learn in a classroom where the behavior is not a distraction. If I constantly had to tell students to stop talking, or to pay attention, it would take away from instructional time. With brownie points, they know what they are working towards. Sometimes the simple action of pointing to the pan would quiet students down, in fear of losing a point, while the possibility of adding a brownie point will motivate students to be productive and responsible. Our classroom is a positive, productive place, and I give credit to a whole class behavior system for that.
With my progress monitoring,  it is a great example of helping students in the development of self-concept, self-control, self -motivation, and personal accountability. In this particular case, I know that there will probably always be minimal classroom disruptions, but hopefully Joe will be more aware of them now.
