SLO 3: Understand the characteristics of students and use these characteristics to impact learning and achievement.
My understanding of SLO 3:
For me, SLO 3 means that I am meeting my students where they are, at whatever ability level it might be, and encouraging them to grow. From differentiating assignments, to identifying individual needs and applying further instruction-I am going to help my students as much as possible. It is critical that I vary my methods of teaching, so that I am able to meet each individual students' needs.

Artifacts:
- Differentiated Literature Group Assignments
- Modified SS assignments
- Language Arts groupings and work time schedule
Rationale:
With these artifacts, I am able to demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of meeting the students where they are. For the literature group assignments, I was able to identify the needs of individual students and applying that knowledge to further instruction. I knew that with my below level group, if I gave them a diagram full of empty boxes and asked them to complete it, they would be overwhelmed.
For the modified SS assignments, by knowing my students, and their abilities, I was able to adjust the assignment to make it more valuable for their needs. I could select the most important information for my students, and asses them that way. I was able to meet the needs of my individual students by modifying the assignments.
For Language Arts groupings and work time schedule, I am able to work with the students who comprehend and read at a lower level, and give them more remedial instruction, but still offer my higher achieving students with the extension they need. The schedule is flexible enough that I can adjust as needed during the large group mini-lessons, and see where my students are at.
