SLO 1

SLO 1: Demonstrate knowledge of the content, current legal & ethical issues and research & resources related to best practice in education.

My understanding of SLO 1:
To me, SLO 1 is vital, because it says that as educators, we need to be aware of the best, ethical practices in education. From studying legal information, to research, educators need to be up to date on these practices, and continue to stay informed on the issues.  We also need to know and understand different ideas and methods in the field of education. I want my students to succeed, and I can do that by using the best methods out there.

Rationale:
When I attended the presentation by the Board of Education Examiners, I was able to learn firsthand about various legal and ethical issues. This will guide me in using best practices in education. I am able to look at different situations, including those in my own life and ensure that I am making the proper decisions that are the best for my students. It is also useful, because I can be sure of the legal obligations and opportunities available within my license.
While in my second placement, I was able to read, study, and use The Daily 5 for language arts. The school started using this method this year, and along with my cooperating teacher, we designed a schedule for our classroom that uses The Daily 5, but also allows us to have our leveled groups. This research helped me use a better method for my students. I know the education is a constant swinging pendulum, and I need to stay aware of the different methods and ideas that are out there. I need to be able to understand them, and use the best, most appropriate methods for my students.
