SLO 4

SLO 4: Plan, implement and reflect on learning activities that incorporate a variety of instructional and assessment strategies to make instructional decisions that reflect best practice in education.

My understanding of SLO 4:
     As an educator, I need to use the best methods to instruct and assess my students. Throughout my time in the classroom, I have had the opportunities to use both formative and summative assessments. This allows me to see what areas I may need to reteach, or extend on throughout the lesson.

Rationale:

     The literature groups demonstrate my ability to plan different lessons and activities that promote student learning. The unit was designed with a variety of instructional and assessment practices that reflect best practices in education. Because this unit was different than normal, a parent letter went home to let them know what was happening. I also gave the students different final project options for the end-of-the-book assessment. The unit also required reflections from me, because I had to look back at how students were able to apply the knowledge of the skill, and see if it was done correctly. I would also have to reflect on the students' comprehension of the reading assignment and decide if we needed to go back and reread, or could move on. 

     My SS unit clearly demonstrates my use of different instructional strategies to increase student learning. It also shows how self-assessment is an important part of my planning and professional development. Planning this unit showed my ability to take the material and divide it out so that students can learn in the most effective ways. Students were able to have plenty of exposure to the material, and by the end of the unit, students took a test, where their understandings of the material was proven.
